Vintage Rococo print, "Young shepherdess fishing beside a young shepherd playing the flute" by François Boucher. Displayed in a heavy, ornate gold frame.

The Antiquary's Story:

Rococo is a style originating in the 1730s and defined by the theatrical representation of love, classical myths and youth. It contains extensive ornamentation, asymmetrical form, curved and undulating lines, florals and pastels.

Francois Boucher was known as the most decorated painter of his time and of Rococo.  Early works include portrayals of innocence, nature and tranquility, while he is now most known for his passionate mythical scenes and flirtatious young lovers—like the Shepherdess in our print above.
